Sanctuaries Unique Garden Center is a small, independently owned garden center specializing in the unusual. We offer a wide selection of hard-to-find herbs, perennials, and shrubs, as well as a unique collection of garden art. Located in Midlothian, Virginia (just outside of Richmond), Sanctuaries is situated on the grounds of historic Hallsborough Tavern, providing a picturesque setting for the garden center, and inviting visitors to meander, and discover new plants and ideas. We have a number of display gardens on the Tavern grounds, which we hope will provide a source of education and delight for our visitors!
Built in three major stages ante 1833, Hallsborough Tavern has a rich and varied history. Over the course of the nineteenth century it served as a tavern, community meeting place and post office. In the late 1830′s and early 1840′s, the Lynchburg stagecoach stopped at the Tavern every day of the week to transfer mail and passengers, and acquire fresh teams of horses.
